Zsolt Farkas was born in 1973 in the Northeast of
Hungary, an area with a vibrant Gypsy culture. Gypsy dance and traditional
Gypsy culture played a big part in his childhood. Everybody in the
community danced or played music. Zsolt was 14 when he first participated
in international dance camp, organized by his uncle Gusztáv Balázs. These
camps were a great inspiration, as children not only learned Hungarian
Gypsy dances but those from other countries. His other master was Béla
Balogh, from whom he learnt the artistic elements of dance in the Lindri
Dance Theatre. In 1997 he joined world-famous band Kalyi
Jag, with
whom he toured the world. In 2001 Zsolt founded the award-winning Khamoro
(Sunshine) Gypsy Dance Association and the Khamoro
Dance Group. He is
still the leader of these groups. Zsolt has received a bronze award of
distinction from the Hungarian Republic. He has also taught hundreds of
students the basics of Gypsy dance.
